"I would give this 5 stars for the guide, the animals and the work they do; except that there was a really strange interaction at the end that might have been a scam. The cost was 20 soles and when I paid, she gave me the ticket but the money back and then called a guide. I figured maybe it runs on tips? Or I pay the guide? Or they charge at the end? Then at the end was a donation box so I put the 20 in there. Right after she saw that, she then happened to remember she gave me back the money and made me pay 20 again when I was in the car with my wallet. I suppose I could have spoken out or more explicitly asked what was happening, but my Spanish isnt perfect, and given she had 30+ minutes to remember but seemed to wait until RIGHT after the box, I suspect this is a weird kind of ethical/moral manipulation scam? Or she did just forget and I didn't speak up. Regardless, I think the work they do and the guide honestly deserves 40 IF you can afford it (very expensive relative to other things though) and I just didn't walk into the zoo with my wallet to donate more (now glad). Tldr: make sure you dont fall for this, but please go and support and enjoy the amazing wildlife in a sanctuary that seems far more ethical than a zoo!!!"
